The cover is leatherette, not leather: it doesn't breathe like hide, but it shrugs off spilled powder, hairspray overspray and the occasional coffee, and a damp cloth takes it back to new.

Care

Wipe the leatherette with a damp cloth and a drop of mild soap; dry immediately. Keep acetone, nail polish remover, alcohol-based sprays and bleach off the seat — they strip the finish. Vacuum hair out of the casters every few weeks so they keep rolling instead of dragging. On thick pile rugs, lift the stool rather than pushing it. Not a step stool: stand on it and you'll damage the lift.

How high does the seat actually go?

From 15.74 to 19.68 inches, measured at the top of the cushion with the stool on a flat floor. That's roughly four inches of travel — enough to go from a low makeup table to a standard vanity without changing stools.

Will it slide under my vanity?

The seat is 13.38 inches across and the base is 19.68 inches, so check two things: at least 20 inches of clear floor width, and about 14 inches of clearance under the vanity apron for the seat to tuck in. The casters add roughly two inches of height to the base footprint.

Is the seat real leather?

No — it's leatherette (polyurethane), and we'd rather say so. It doesn't have leather's breathability or its patina, but it doesn't stain the way fabric does, it wipes clean in seconds, and it costs a fraction of a leather stool.

Does it roll on carpet?

On low-pile carpet and rugs, yes. On thick plush or shag, the casters sink and it drags — put a chair mat down or lift it between spots. Same on very uneven tile grout lines.

Can I use it at a 36-inch kitchen island?

No. At full height the seat is 19.68 inches, which leaves a 16-inch gap to a standard 36-inch counter — too low to eat at comfortably. This is a vanity and desk-height stool; for an island you want a 24-inch seat.

Does it swivel all the way around?

Yes, 360° in both directions, with no lock. That's deliberate — a locking swivel on a stool this size tends to get left unlocked anyway.

Will the casters scratch my wood floor?

Soft-roll casters are gentle on sealed hardwood and tile, but grit trapped in the wheels is what actually scratches floors. A quick vacuum of the casters every few weeks does more than any wheel upgrade.

Why is it on clearance?

End-of-run inventory — the batch is finite and we'd rather move it than warehouse it. The stools are new and unused; clearance pricing reflects the inventory, not the condition.
