Narrow Bamboo Hall Tree with Bench & Shoe Storage
Narrow Bamboo Hall Tree with Bench & Shoe Storage
Available in stock (12)
Hang it, sit on it, and get ten pairs of shoes off the floor — in 11.8 inches of depth.
Most hall trees are 16 to 18 inches deep, which is enough to eat the hallway they were supposed to save. This one is 11.81 inches front to back and 28 inches wide, and still fits a coat rail, a padded bench and two shoe shelves. If your entryway is a corridor rather than a room, this is the shape you want.
- 67.71" H × 28.34" W × 11.81" D
- Solid bamboo
- 5 coat hooks
- 2 shoe shelves · 10 pairs
- 11.81 inches deep.Shallow enough to keep a hallway walkable — about the depth of a standard closet shelf — while still holding a full winter coat on a hanger without the shoulders brushing the wall.
- Five hooks, one landing zone.Round bamboo pegs with a raised lip, so a tote strap or a scarf stays put instead of sliding onto the floor. Coats, bags, hats, the dog's leash, tomorrow's outfit.
- A bench you actually sit on.A padded, upholstered seat at the height where you'd tie a shoe — the reason this piece replaces the chair that currently holds your coats.
- Two shelves, ten pairs.Sneakers, flats and slides on the upper shelf, boots and heels below, and the base rail takes the wet pair you just walked in with.
- Bamboo, carbonized, walnut-finished.Heat-treated bamboo is dense and stable, and the walnut tone reads warmer than the pale pine hall trees usually sold at this size.
The 11.8-inch problem
Entryway furniture fails on depth, not on width. A 16-inch bench plus a coat hanging off the front of it turns a 36-inch hallway into a 15-inch hallway, and then everyone starts walking sideways. At 11.81 inches — 30 cm, measured from the wall to the front edge of the frame — this hall tree leaves a normal corridor usable. It also means the piece sits tight against the wall instead of floating out into the room, which is what makes a small foyer look deliberate.
The trade-off is capacity, and we'd rather be straight about it: this is storage for one household's daily rotation, not for a family of five's entire shoe collection. Ten pairs, five coats, a bag or two. If that's your daily load, it's exactly enough.
Five hooks and what actually hangs on them
The pegs are cylindrical bamboo with a slight lip at the end — round enough that a knit sweater doesn't get a shoulder point pressed into it, and lipped enough that a canvas tote doesn't slide off when the door slams. Two hooks at coat height, three across the top rail, all within easy reach whether you're 5'2" or 6'2". Nothing here needs drilling; the rail is part of the frame, so the only hole in your wall is the anchor strap.
Sit down to put your shoes on
This is the part people underestimate. A bench in the entryway changes the morning: you sit, you tie, you stand, you leave — instead of balancing on one leg against a wall. The seat is padded and upholstered in a linen-look weave, firm enough that it doesn't bottom out under an adult, and it lifts the whole piece from "coat rack" to "furniture".
Where the shoes go
Two slatted shelves plus the base rail. Sneakers and flats sit two to a shelf-run on top, boots and heels go low where there's more headroom, and a pair of slippers can live on the bottom rail. Slats rather than a solid shelf means grit and snowmelt drop through instead of pooling — a small thing that matters for about four months a year in most of the country.
Bamboo, carbonized, and finished like walnut
The frame is solid bamboo, heat-treated at high temperature — a process that drives out moisture, hardens the fiber and darkens the tone — then finished in a warm walnut stain. You get the grain and heft of wood with a material that renews in a few years rather than a few decades. It's also why the piece stays dimensionally stable in a hallway that swings between a hot summer and a dry winter.

Assembly and care
The frame ships flat: two side posts, the bench box, the top rail and the shoe shelves, with the hardware bagged and labeled. You'll need a Phillips screwdriver and about an arm's length of floor. Build it where it's going — a 67-inch frame is awkward to carry through a doorway once it's up.
Wipe the bamboo with a barely damp cloth and dry it immediately; skip silicone polish and anything with bleach. Blot spills on the cushion rather than rubbing, and vacuum the slats monthly — grit is what wears a finish, not shoes. Keep the piece out of direct sun, and never leave wet boots sitting on the frame for days.
Questions, answered
How deep is the hall tree, really?
11.81 inches (30 cm) from the back of the frame to the front edge, including the bench seat. Measure from the wall — if your baseboard is thick, the back rail will sit slightly proud of it, so add that half inch to your hallway math.
Will it fit in a narrow hallway?
It needs 28.34 inches of clear wall and 11.81 inches of depth. In a 36-inch-wide corridor that leaves roughly 24 inches to walk through — tight but workable, and far better than the 18 to 20 inches a standard 16-inch-deep hall tree would leave. Check the door swing separately; a coat hanging off the front adds bulk that the frame doesn't.
How many pairs of shoes does it hold?
About ten: six across the upper shelf, four to six on the lower one depending on boot height, plus a pair on the base rail. Kids' shoes fit three or four to a run; men's size 12 sneakers fit two or three.
Is it solid bamboo or engineered board?
Solid bamboo — the frame posts, rails and shelves are all bamboo, carbonized at high temperature and finished in walnut. You'll see end grain at the joints, and no paper veneer to lift at a corner.
Does the bench hold an adult?
Yes, it's built as a seat, not a decorative shelf — sitting down to put shoes on is the point. Don't stand on it, and don't use the shoe shelves as a step.
Do I have to anchor it to the wall?
You should. A 67-inch-tall, 28-inch-wide piece with a winter coat hanging at the top is a lever, and any hall tree can tip if someone pulls on it or a kid climbs the shelves. One strap into a stud takes five minutes.
Can it go in a mudroom, garage or covered porch?
Mudrooms and hallways, yes. Garages and covered porches, no — bamboo moves with humidity, and an unheated or damp space will eventually loosen the joints and lift the finish.
How long does assembly take?
The frame is flat-packed and bolts together with the included hardware — most people finish in well under an hour with a screwdriver. Two people make the top rail easier to line up.
A place for the coat, a place to sit, and the floor back where it belongs.
